Badge #27

· You can do it,Sickle Cell

As a working mom, I recognized that it’s difficult to find the time and curl up with a good book. Whenever I attempt to do so, I was often interrupted by the demands of a lengthy to-do list. Furthermore, I noticed when I did have the chance to read, it was the Bible or academic and psychological articles. However, this next challenge motivated me to push past the excuses and pick up a book.

In January of 2017, I took the first step. After setting aside my literary presumptions, I was delighted by the joys of reading. Here are a few of my favorite books that I read over the last year.

My Top Pick

Out of all the books that I read this year, my favorite would have to be A Sick Life: TLC ’n Me: Stories from On and Off the Stage by Tionne (T-Boz) Watkins. The candid memoir takes the reader on a journey as she reveals the highs and lows of being a member of TLC. As a fellow sickle cell survivor, I can truly appreciate T-Boz sharing her struggles with Sickle Cell disease. Now as she approaches the age of 50, she shared how she was able to keep a positive outlook on life.
